I wish more trans folx would have these types of honest dialogues about how hormones impact our bodies and our sense of self. And kudos to you for speaking up about your needs and desires with a doctor who clearly wants to hear that from you. We all deserve to feel like ourselves, and finding that space inside our bodies is so liberating.

Advocating for ourselves and seeking out healthcare seems to be one of the biggest hurdles we face in becoming who we are meant to be. It is difficult to be vulnerable about how we feel, but it is so necessary to rip off that bandaid.

Thank you for sharing this personal information Elle. Progesterone is slated for discussion at my check up later this month. I'm especially interested for the mood regulation potential sleep benefits you've listed, plus other body shaping benefits that have been reported. It's especially helpful to know that if we do go down this path, there may be an adjustment period before things begin to regulate.

Hi Veronica! Thank you for commenting😊

There was absolutely an adjustment period where I felt pretty awful and all over the place… But it only lasted about a week or two and now I feel really good. Other girls i’ve talked to have said they didn’t experience this though, everyone is different of course. The sleep aid benefit is absolutely amazing!! Wishing you a happy first day on progesterone soon! 💗

As a perimenopausal cis woman, I am going through bits of what you describe as my estrogen and progesterone are starting to flag. I’m now on vaginal estrogen and I’ve been on a progesterone-releasing IUD for some years now, and I’m stabilizing as well. I find this all pretty fascinating, and your post makes me appreciate that some of what we cis women gripe about are experiences that trans women actually seek out. Thank you for that perspective.

Hi Amy! Thank you for your comment🙂 It is always interesting to hear the ways that trans and cis women endure similar HRT regimens and how we relate to them differently. I know that as a trans woman I have missed out on a lot of experiences that cis women endure with their bodies and certain cultural significance that surrounds those things. For me, I am just happy to be part of that now and that I can relate to other women!
